Hi: My name is Brian, I am a mechanical engineer having served my apprenticeship in the fifties with John Dickinson’s Co Ltd.
A large international company that built, installed and serviced print and paper conversion machinery. Since completing my apprenticeship
I have spent most of my working life as a freelance technician, in Canada, North Africa, Central Europe and the UK. A lot of my work has
been in the Aircraft and Petrol Chemical Industry. Back in the eighties I was looking for rod rests for my boat, and could not find anything that
was suitable. A friend and tackle dealer suggested that I designed and manufactured my own. He was impressed with the finished product and
suggested that I design a beach tripod. This I did, putting the first ones on the market in the early eighties. As I was born before the Second World
War started, my early years were dogged with shortage and rationing. I therefore do not believe in waste, so I designed a Tripod that would stand
the test of time. The initial design, that included the use of an aluminium ‘T’ section main leg, and 5/8” diameter aluminium tube for the front legs
has not changed. Any component from the first Tripods will fit the Tripods produced today. All the changes have been in the way that the Tripod is
produced and constructed. One of the major changes is in the way we hold the Tripod together. Initially every component was secured using nuts
and bolts. Now all nonadjustable parts are riveted. The only screw fixings are on adjustable or removable components. The Boat Rod Rests,
plus Outriggers were produced and sold in small numbers in the eighties. I am planning to bring the Boat Rod Rests back into production for the
beginning of 2010,
and the Outriggers that are custom made for your boat, into production later that year.
